Introducing....
So Nugget spent the two weeks that me and JF spend in Newfoundland at JF's parents with 4 other cats. He came back 4lbs lighter due to all the playing and the fact that he wasn't the only trying to eat. This is a really good thing because we'd been having some issues with his weight, and activity levels. Our conclusion was that it was due time he get a friend to play with. So we headed out last Saturday to find him a buddy. We ended up at the SPCA and found a little guy that we fell in love with. So without further ado:
Meet Burrito.His name was originally Brido, we didnt like it and there's a food theme with animal names in our family so we changed it to something that sounds pretty much just like his old name. (Names include Poutine, Cannelle (cinnamon in french), Baileys, Nugget and now Burrito, there's also a dog named Brownie).
We're not sure if Nugget and Burrito are really getting along all that well, mostly because they seem to be fighting a lot but I think its just play fighting. My comfort was finding them like this:

Don't worry about the fighting, it's part of the getting to know who's boss ritual. My female was constantly hissing at my tomcat until he got tired of it, hissed back and it's been love ever since.
Things are settling here between Newman and the girls too. Flash actually instigates some play with him now, instead of just growling and snarling all the time. Burrito looks adorable...nuthin' like a tabby!
Cats and weight: do you feed free choice or do you give them meals? My vet neice recommends meals to keep cat weight in control. She scolds me for feeding free choice..heh heh...but my girls lose their weight in Spring when they go back outside.
Newman is very active...between the cat tree and playing fetch and still being a kitten (6 1/2 months old).
Sometimes free feeding is all that works, despite the veterinarians' best wishes. My three mostly eat whatever the cheapest bag is at Costco. 'Sina, the asocial one, will have nothing to do with anything BUT dry kibble. The other two get a can of cat food whenever I think about it; not daily - more like weekly. They also get to pre-wash any people dishes that haven't any onion. 'Sina, now about 9, would prefer to be an only cat, but that's just too bad. It was live with me and mine or get put down; I rescued her. She does not play with the others. She isn't much interested in chasing cat toys, however tantilizingly dangled. She's a tightly wound butterball with immaculate grooming. Puck (age 3) and Shadow (~9) keep each other fit by chasing through the house and wrestling one another. Both take turns chasing 'Sina; she makes a good stand-in for a prey animal!
As long as there's no blood drawn in fighting, all's well. Tufts of fur don't count; they're too easily pulled out.
